Like Real People Do

“Like Real People Do” By Hozier is a smooth, slow song based around an irish poem about digging someone from the earth and falling in love with them. The point of view comes from the one being dug up, and the emotions of relief, love, and suspicion after being unearthed. The lyrics really displays this under a cloudy metaphor, and the song’s lyrics after listening intently carry a HEAVY message. It’s extremely relaxing to listen to, as the slow tone and soft voice can nearly lull someone to sleep. Hozier explained his meaning of this song in an “Ask me Anything” event on reddit: “I kind of liked the imagery of someone digging up a person from the earth and falling in love with them and at the same time I suppose that person being dug from the earth is relieved, reborn, and somewhat suspicious of the motives of a grave digger. A fine love story.”
